What type of venue are you?
The Norfolk Mead Hotel is a boutique Georgian country house hotel, originally built in 1740. Onsite accommodation sleeps up to 42 guests across hotel rooms, suites, cottages, and summer houses. Weddings take place in our Garden Room, a beautiful, glass-fronted event space with modern amenities, located within our picturesque Walled Garden.
How many guests can you accommodate?
We can accommodate:
Up to 110 guests for a Civil Ceremony
Up to 140 guests for a sit-down meal
Up to 240 guests for an evening standing party
How long can you provisionally hold a date for?
Following a viewing, we can provisionally hold one date for up to 7 working days. After this, a deposit is required to secure your booking.
Is the wedding venue licensed for Civil Ceremonies?
Yes, both our Garden Room Venue and the Georgian Room (within the main hotel) are licensed for Civil Wedding Ceremonies. The ceremony itself must be booked through Norfolk Registration Services.
Is the venue available for exclusive hire?
Yes. While the hotel is usually open to the public, exclusive hire is available, including use of the hotel, grounds, and accommodation from 10:30am on your wedding day until 10:30am the following day, subject to an exclusivity fee.

Check-in is from 3:00pm, and check-out is at 10:30am. Room rates include breakfast and 2 hours’ complimentary spa access.
Who will be our point of contact?
You’ll be looked after by Francesca (Head of Events) and Danni (Events Coordinator), who will support you from your first visit through to the big day. With 15 years’ combined experience, they’re always available via phone or email and will be there to oversee your set-up, wedding day, and post-event wrap-up.
Do you have a minimum guest number?
There is no minimum guest number. However, a minimum food spend applies on peak dates (Fridays and Saturdays from May to September):
£5,000 in 2025 and 2026
£5,500 in 2027
Do I have to use your recommended suppliers?
No, you are welcome to use your own suppliers. Our Recommended Supplier List is simply there to showcase trusted professionals we’ve worked with and know deliver a high-quality service.
Do you offer wedding packages?
We offer bespoke quotations tailored to your preferences, so you only pay for what you actually want. These are created following your viewing and include a detailed itemised breakdown.
What time can we access the venue?
Venue hire is from 09:00 to 00:00 on your wedding day. If the space is available the day before, Francesca or Danni will arrange early access for setup. If not, you’ll be able to drop off items in advance and they will arrange setup for you.
Are fireworks or confetti allowed?
Fireworks are not permitted due to our location within the Norfolk Broads. Sparklers are allowed outdoors with supervision and sand buckets. Biodegradable confetti is welcome in the Walled Garden (not indoors).
Do you offer a complimentary menu tasting?
Yes, for weddings with quotations over £10,000, a complimentary menu tasting for two is included. For weddings under this value, the cost is £75 per person (up to four people maximum; additional guests chargeable).
Tastings take place on weekday afternoons during quieter periods.
Do you have your own in-house catering team?
Yes. All catering is provided in-house – from canapés to full meals, BBQs, and evening food. The only exceptions are traditional wedding cakes and sweet tables/favours, provided no special storage is required.
Is crockery and linen included?
Yes. Crockery, cutlery, glassware, and white linen are all included in the venue hire.
Is there a cake cutting fee? Do you provide utensils?
We do not charge for cake cutting during your evening reception. We provide a cake knife as a keepsake gift. If you’d like your cake served plated with coulis and garnish, a £4.50 per guest supplement applies.
Can we bring our own alcohol? Is there a corkage fee?
Unfortunately, we do not offer corkage. All alcohol must be purchased through our bar or drinks packages.
Can you accommodate live bands or DJs?
Absolutely!Amplified live music is permitted indoors until 00:00. Non-amplified music is permitted in the Walled Garden until 19:00.
What time should carriages be arranged for?
We recommend booking carriages for 00:00. Taxis should be booked in advance due to our rural location.
Do you have disabled access?
The Garden Room Venue is all on one level, with disabled toilet facilities. We have one accessible Summer House with a ramped entrance and walk-in shower. 11 rooms are located upstairs and are not suitable for wheelchair users. We recommend viewing the accessible room in advance to confirm suitability.
Are you dog or pet friendly?
Yes, dogs are welcome for your ceremony and photos, provided they are kept on a lead and cleaned up after. We also have three dog-friendly rooms (Sweet Chestnut, Crab Apple, and Juniper) available for overnight stays. We’re happy to recommend a dog chaperone service if needed.
What is the payment schedule?
A deposit is required to secure your date. A second instalment is due 12 months before the wedding. The final balance is due 1 week before the wedding. Please contact Francesca or Danni for specific payment amounts.
Do you host more than one wedding per day?
No – we only ever host one wedding per day, so the entire focus is on you and your guests.
Can we use your sound system?
Yes. You’re welcome to use our internal sound system. Please provide any Spotify playlists in advance so we can pre-download them and ensure everything runs smoothly for your ceremony or background music.
