About the Role
What does a typical day look for you at The Norfolk Mead?
First things first, a cup of tea! Once I’m fuelled up, the day starts with checking emails and preparing for any meetings. There’s a lot of organisation involved in planning weddings, so being on hand to guide and answer questions is key to giving each couple a great experience. It’s hard to describe a typical day because no two days are the same!
One moment I’m showing potential clients around, the next I’m working with the team to set everything up for a wedding - briefings, paperwork, supplier timings. It’s a real mix of hands-on work, staying organised, and making sure guests feel genuinely welcome.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part is seeing all the planning come together on the big day - watching the couple walk in and realise their vision has come to life. The aisle walk always gets me; I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve gotten emotional watching couples make their entrance.
What is one thing people might not realise goes into event planning?
People don’t always realise how much time and detail goes into behind-the-scenes coordination. Managing suppliers, timelines, and anticipating things that might go wrong - a lot happens quietly in the background.
It’s not just about making things look beautiful; it’s about making sure every moment flows smoothly so the couple and guests can relax and enjoy the day. The goal is to make it look effortless, when in reality it’s anything but!
Francesca always calls this ‘swanning’ - looking graceful on the outside, while flapping your little feet like mad underneath!
A Bit About You
What inspired you to get into events?
I worked for several years as senior manager at The Norfolk Mead and one of my favourite parts was seeing couples arrive the day before their wedding, full of excitement. I remember standing in the bar at weddings, watching the bride make her entrance through the walled garden, wishing I could be part of it.
Bringing people together and creating meaningful experiences felt like the perfect career. I’m naturally organised, creative and enthusiastic, so event planning was a great fit. What really drew me in was seeing how much joy and emotion a well-executed event can bring. Being part of those milestone moments inspired me to pursue this path.
What is your background before joining The Norfolk Mead?
I’ve been at The Norfolk Mead for nearly seven years. Before that, I was head waitress at a small countryside pub after studying acting and theatre.
Along the way, I also volunteered with the prison service and rehabilitation charities, helping people rebuild their lives. Those experiences taught me a lot about mentoring and supporting others. Events was always my passion, and I was lucky to train and start my career in events management. It’s been hard work with long hours but I’m proud to be where I am today.
If you weren’t working in events, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t in events, I’d likely still be in a creative, organised role. With my background in acting and theatre, directing or producing would suit me very well.
If not events, I’d love to create a centre for children and young adults in disadvantaged positions, helping them realise their potential through sports or creative arts. Ultimately, I love creating happiness in people!
Behind the Scenes
What’s your most memorable event at The Norfolk Mead?
Last September, we hosted a two-day wedding where the couple booked out the whole hotel. The schedule was packed with suppliers and entertainment - sea shanty singers, Spanish acoustic music, live bands, photographers, and a van full of decorations that took a full day to set up. The numbers were big and the vibes even bigger. The atmosphere was electric, and after the last details were done, I remember feeling pure energy, love, and happiness all around. It’s a day I’ll never forget.
Just for Fun
If you could plan a dream event for anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I don’t have a single person in mind, but my dream would be to organise an event with as many music legends as possible. Something like the first Live Aid - Elton John, Queen, U2, The Who - icons coming together for an incredible cause and having a blast.
What does your perfect day off look like?
Our job is intense, so self-care is key on my days off. My perfect day starts with a tasty breakfast with my partner, followed by tennis, a simple meal deal picnic, then a nap at home. I’d finish the day with an ice-cold glass of chardonnay in the sun, a firepit and cooking some chorizo.
Three words your team would use to describe you?
Emotional, personable and energetic!
